Jeeli rugs/carpets are those that are made in prison by the inmates. During the reign of Akbar this was put into practice as a means of reform and work for the prisoners. This particular rug/carpet was made at Circa 1900 by the jails managed by the British in Central India. The design is an inpiration of the Turkmen weaves.
