This carpet from the Andkhoy region of Afghanistan is of exquisite tribal heritage. The Babaseqal clan of Ersari Turkmen have woven this masterpiece. The design of the carpet is similar to the Caucasian rugs of Azerbaijan as the Turkmen settled in the region in the 11th century. An avid collector of caucasian rugs will notice the flower forms of the long and narrow medallions which are similar, although less stylized. Fine local hand spun wool is used on the rug, it is soft and lustrous. Natural or Vegetable dyes are used on the rug, the colours are red, dark blue, orange and beige.
