A stunning and extremely rare kilim made during circa 1940 in the Caucasus. The design is that of the dragon soumak made in Karabakh. The carpet/rug is split in two parts that are mirror images of each other. The Kilim has a unique structure where the wefts are used as design elements and not just for structural purposes. This type of Kilim is called a Soumak Kilim. Soumak Kilims are generally superior in construction when compared to other types of Kilims.Colours include orangish red,blue, peach, white and light green. The Socio-Ethnographic conditions that existed at the time of making this are non existent today. These are extremely rare and sought after carpets/rugs
