This antique carpet/rug was made in Khotan, East Turkestan. It was made during the early 1900s. It is one of the famed cities of the ancient silk road. The design in the carpet/rug brings in a great mix of culture of the Persians, Turks and the Chinese. It has a very large central medallion which houses an extremely stylized variation of different flower motifs. The surrounding are of the field has more motifs placed on a dark blue background. The border has a very linearly designed version of flowing vines surrounded by trees. The orangish-gold hue of the rug is a signature of the carpets from the region. The Socio-Ethnographic conditions that existed at the time of making this are non existant today, making these extremely rare and sought after carpets/rugs.
